Tainted Night !

I miss those days !

Moose's Banner

It was supposed to be about Mark Messier and it should have been, instead this day will be remembered for many things, none related to the greatest hockey captain in the history of the N.H.L. I think I woke up in a parallel universe, or I'm living in a nightmare ! Ryan Smyths' contract was supposed to be signed, sealed, and delivered for 5 years, and 5 million dollars to the Edmonton Oilers'. Mark Messier was supposed to come out on the ice with the Stanley Cup and inspire Lupul, Hemsky, and Pisani. In return my Oilers' were to pummel Wayne Gretzkys' hapless Phoenix Coyotes into a thorough butt kicken ! Instead we lose Smyth to the New York Islanders, likely for good. Mark did not inspire the boys to greatness, and in return the hapless Coyotes shut out my beloved Oil 3-0.
Cool to see those retro jerseys, lets not use them ever again !

Good bye my friend !

To : New York Islander's

To Edmonton: F Ryan O'Marra - F Robert Nilsson - 2007 1st RD pick

*

If you think we're gonna re-sign him in July... forget it ! The N.Y.I. have very deep pockets and I believe we can afford him, but wont pay ! K-Lowe is an idiot in my mind, and the ownership has bailed on our season. I say this because the return on the 2 trades (the M.A. Bergeron trade 10 days ago) moves our best offensive defense man, and our leading goal scorer in Ryan, and we didn't even get players to step into the line-up this season ! The team has gone from long shot to make the playoffs... to Game-Over !

Kevin Lowe better not show up to Messiers' jersey retirement tonite for obvious reasons !

Good-bye to the man who's always the first player on the ice, the man who bleeds oil, and the man who's the last player off the ice ! A Franchise Player indeed ! A deal that is an insult to Oiler's fans everywhere !

#11 joins the rafters !

Worth the risk!
Messier's career was a gamble, he says, because he was a late bloomer

He won five Stanley Cups with the Oilers and became the king of New York when he promised the Rangers their first Cup in 54 years, and delivered.
Yet Mark Messier says his pro hockey career began as a gamble. He admits he was a mediocre player who didn't really blossom until his junior years.
Any of the 1,000 Edmontonians who attended the city celebration honouring Messier at Churchill Square yesterday would scoff at the notion.
"But it's true,"Messier said. "I was drafted the Oilers' third pick in the fourth round. Dozens of guys had gone before me.
"I was probably a gamble." If he was a gamble, it was the best one the Oilers franchise ever took, team chairman Cal Nichols told the shivering crowd, as they drooled over highlight reels of Messier's most memorable plays.
"The history he created with this team will probably never be repeated. Mark is the best hockey player Edmonton has ever produced," Nichols said.
"He made the Oilers legendary and helped bring the franchise to greatness - especially when he ran around town taking the Cup to all the local bars and restaurants."
The crowd cheered "Moose, Moose, Moose!" as Messier crossed the stage, accepted a memorial plaque from Mayor Stephen Mandel and shed a tear as the Mark Messier Trail road sign was unveiled to a backdrop of fireworks.
"I can't think of a better way to be honoured," Messier said of the portion of St. Albert Trail between 137 Avenue and the city border rebranded in his honour. "St. Albert Trail was my link to Edmonton during all the years I lived here."

The Oilers are making an arguement to wear their third jerseys for all home games...when they wear them they win often ! I'm not positive, but iI believe they're 7-2 in the dark blue ! Dwayne Roloson made 32 saves and held a shut-out til 30 seconds left in the game. Torres and Horcoff scored for the Oil ! Horcoff has 22 points in his last 22 games. Way to go Oil !

I hate Matt Cooke, wanna join my club ? It's called...

"Matt Cooke should worry more about playing good hockey rather than skating around like an idiot, pissing good hockey players off !"

It's no wonder his stats suck, and he'll never be more than a checker... despite his offensive skills

Refs were paid off ! By Ryan Jackson !

The Oilers owned most of the first period as Zack Stortini wallpapered Lukas Krajicek to the boards and put him out of the game. Horcoff got the Oilers opening goal, and dominated in shots for the first part of the first period.1-0 But the Vancouver Canucks paid for the win... and got tons of help from the zebras ! The Oilers had momentum but the refs made sure to stomp it out. Oiler's defenceman M.A. Bergeron was slammed into the boards head-first and there was no call. Matt Cooke ran around like an idiot most of the first period inciting Oilers players with cheap shots away from the play. His shenanigans caused a 5-3 powerplay for the 'nucks in which they scored. Just to piss me off even more, the goal was directed in off Daniel Sedins' skate !

The 2nd period started well for the Oil as they got 2 good shots on goal and Luongo was sharp. However the refs were still being paid off, and the Oilers got behind the call again, and had another 5-3 against them. Raffe Torres said something to the ref about the inconsistency and got 10 extra minutes. The Canucks scored again, and it was 2-1. Taylor Pyatt ran over Toby Petersen...no interference call, but Zack Stortini made em pay via shot in net ! Oilers tie 2-2 Finally Ohlund took a penalty the refs couldn't ignore, but at this point I felt it was like a make-up call. Pyatt put 1 more in before the end of the second period and it was 3-2 'nucks !

In the 3rd period the Sedins continued their dominance and added another goal 4-2. Ryan Smyth had his stick snapped by a slash... no call ..no surprise ! the game was decided before the insurance goal, so I vent ! 5-2 final !
