Father-Son Day !

Dads eye view !
Friday was father-son, mother-daughter day ! and as an activity Gabe and I went public skating ! I am soooo proud of my little guy, because he was able to let go of the steel-slider-helper-thingy and go on his own !
There were ups and downs to be sure, but all-in-all Gabe had fun and made huge progress from last season (this is awsome because we seldom ever go !)
My friend Scott came along too, and we had some sprints around the rink. Gabe thinks we go like light speed !
Char and the girlies went swimming, and they met us at the rink when they were done. This was good cause Gabe got to show his momma his new moves !
Moms eye view !

Good News !

It's all about Smytty
Long-term deal for Smyth could be inked soon as he gets four points on reunited line
By TERRY JONES, EDMONTON SUN

Expect Ryan Smyth to sign a four, five or even six-year contract at $5-something million US a year soon. And don't be surprised, when he does, if he not only comes out of it an Edmonton Oiler for the rest of his career but wearing the captain's 'C'. On the day GM Kevin Lowe made it official he's finally made a serious offer to keep Smyth here for the rest of his career, it was Captain Canada who grabbed the Oilers by the ears, the game by the throat and personally put the boots to the Los Angeles Kings last night. Smyth scored two goals and two assists, including the winner, to lead Edmonton to a 4-3 win.
TRADE DEADLINE
One month to the day from the trade deadline, Lowe admitted last night he has made an offer to keep Smyth here "longer than three and less than seven'' seasons. Lowe, however, denied, a Hockey Night In Canada report that Smyth's agent Don Meehan is here or headed here to do the deal.
"He's not here. That's all news to me,'' said Lowe. "I know he's headed to Europe in the middle of next week." Lowe says he has no meeting with Meehan presently planned here, or anywhere. "We've made an offer," he said. Lowe characterized it as "the first serious offer" which has been made to Smyth, who would become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the year. The Oilers' GM said he wasn't even aware if Smyth knew of the offer while he was doing his 'will everybody here kindly step to the rear and let a winner lead the way' thing in a game which was huge for the Oilers coming off 4-0 and 5-1 losses at home on either side of the all-star break. "Meehan indicated he'd probably inform Ryan of the offer Sunday," said Lowe. Smyth said he indeed had no clue. "It'll be interesting to talk to Donnie. Obviously, I'd like to get the thing done. I don't want it to be a distraction for the team. We're headed into a stretch run." Smyth said it's all been out there. "They know where we stand. We made an offer at the start of the year. They countered. And then nothing. "They said they didn't want to negotiate during the season and we were going to say the same thing. But now ... well, obviously with free agency, it's an important contract." Lowe says the serious offer indicated the Oilers desire to keep their face-of-the-franchise player here. "We've indicated a preference to keep Ryan here long- term. And publicly, Ryan said he'd like to be here long term." This is finally the move which had to be made to make this happen sooner rather than later. As for the above suggestion that Smyth will end up with not only the new contract but the captaincy, that's somewhere Lowe isn't likely to go on or off the record. But with the frequency that the name of long-serving captain Jason Smith keeps coming up in trade talks, the less-than-stellar season he's having and the obvious fact that this is unquestionably Ryan Smyth's hockey team now, I submit it makes nothing but sense. It also might provide the shake-up to put this team back into a playoff position. But that's me. Smyth, off last night, might want a clause to mandate Ales Hemsky and Shawn Horcoff be kept together as his linemates for the term of the contract. Tried, tested and true, the line came through in a big way to lead the way. ALL FOUR GOALS The line got all four goals. "Mac put us back together hoping we'd rub off on everybody," said Smyth. "Ryan, Horc and Hemmer were a handful all night," said coach Craig MacTavish for his end of it. "We needed a line to step up and they certainly did that. Hemsky just wasn't working with Petr and Petr," he said of Sykora and Nedved. "Ryan played great. We needed someone to step up and play spectacular and he did that tonight." The two goals were Smyth's 24th and 25th of the season. The four points matched a career high for No. 94. And the night gave Smyth the team lead in scoring despite missing 10 games due to injury. With eight 20-goal seasons, Smyth has an excellent chance to match his career high total of 39. Despite missing the 10 games, he's only six points off the league lead in goals scored. Whatever his new deal is going to be, he's already giving full value for it.

Funnies

***
Thank-you to Char's uncle Art who has forwarded these funny emails over the past few days, since the All Star break began !

-SUMMARY OF MY LAST YEAR ON THE COMPUTER-

I must send my thanks to whoever sent me the one about rat poop in the glue on envelopes because I now have to use a wet towel with every envelope that needs sealing.
Also, now I have to scrub the top of every can I open for the same reason.I no longer have any savings because I gave it to a sick girl (Penny Brown) who is about to die in the hospital for the 1,387,258th time.
I no longer have any money at all, but that will change once I receive the $15,000 that Bill Gates/Microsoft and AOL are sending me for participating in their special e-mail program.
I no longer worry about my soul because I have 363,214 angels looking out for me, and St. Theresa's novena has granted my every wish.
I no longer eat KFC because their chickens are actually horrible mutant freaks with no eyes or feathers.
I no longer use cancer-causing deodorants even though I smell like a water buffalo on a hot day
Thanks to you, I have learned that my prayers only get answered if I forward an email to seven of my friends and make a wish within five minutes.
Because of your concern I no longer drink Coca Cola because it can remove toilet stains.
I no longer can buy gasoline without taking a man along to watch the car so a serial killer won't crawl in my back seat when I'm pumping gas.
I no longer drink Pepsi or Dr. Pepper since the people who make these products are atheists who refuse to put "Under God" on their cans.
I no longer use Saran wrap in the microwave because it causes cancer.
And thanks for letting me know I can't boil a cup water in the microwave anymore because it will blow up in my face...disfiguring me for life.
I no longer check the coin return on pay phones because I could be pricked with a needle infected with AIDS.
I no longer go to shopping malls because someone will drug me with a perfume sample and rob me.
I no longer receive packages from UPS or FedEx since they are actually Al Qaeda in disguise.
I no longer shop at Target since they are French and don't support our American troops or the Salvation Army.
I no longer answer the phone because someone will ask me to dial a number for which I will get a phone bill with calls to Jamaica , Uganda , Singapore , and Uzbekistan.
I no longer have any sneakers -- but that will change once I receive my free replacement pair from Nike.
I no longer buy expensive cookies from Neiman Marcus since I now have their recipe.
Thanks to you, I can't use anyone's toilet but mine because a big brown African spider is lurking under the seat to cause me instant death when it bites my butt.
Thank you too for all the endless advice Andy Rooney has given us. I can live a better life now because he's told us how to fix everything.
And thanks to your great advice, I can't ever pick up $5.00 I dropped in the parking lot because it probably was placed there by a sex molester waiting underneath my car to grab my leg.
Oh, and don't forget this one either! I can no longer drive my car because I can't buy gas from certain gas companies!
If you don't send this e-mail to at least 144,000 people in the next 70 minutes, a large dove with diarrhea will land on your head at 5:00 PM this afternoon and the fleas from 12 camels will infest your back, causing you to grow a hairy hump. I know this will occur because it actually happened to a friend of my next door neighbor's ex-mother-in-law's second husband's cousin's beautician...Have a wonderful day....
A South American scientist from Argentina , after a lengthy study, has discovered that people with insufficient brain activity read their e-mail with their hand on the mouse.Don't bother taking it off now, it's too late

Funny !

A Very Short Story…

Man driving down road.
Woman driving up same road.
They pass each other.
The woman yells out window, "PIG!"
Man yells out window, "BAG!"
Man rounds next curve.
Man crashes into HUGE PIG in middle of road and dies.

Thought of the day: "If only men would listen. . ."

Zack Back !

I love this move...the Oil have have called up Zack Stortini from the Hamilton Bulldogs. Zack brings size and toughness to the line-up. Should a Calgary Flame decide to target one of our young stars in tomorrow nights game on H.N.I.C. Zack will be P.B. (Pay Back) As of late the Oil have had liberties taken on Hemsky and Stoll, with no retaliation. Now nobody else will get away with a free cheap shots on them anymore. The philosophy at the beginning of the season was that we did not need an enforcer like Laraque on the team, so we let him go. In hind sight that was a poor decision because our good players are receiving allot of cheap shots. Enter Zack Stortini. Phaneuf of Calgary, Boogard of Minnesota and others might think twice about it now ! Maybe not, but Zack will answer, and look out he's an animal !

Char told me this one...

Joey is the little guy that Char cares for after school !

When Gabe and Joey arrived home she caught them at the door and went to warn them I was sleeping still.

Joey said " I know, I know Gabe's dad is sleeping !"

Gabe replied " My dad works all night long, and sleeps all day !"

and then remarked " I guess that makes my dad nocturnal !"

Hee Hee

Two married buddies are out drinking one night, when one turns to the other and says, "You know, I don't know what else to do. Whenever I go home after we've been out drinking, I turn the headlights off before I get to the driveway. I shut off the engine and coast into the garage. Take my shoes off before I go into the house, I sneak up the stairs, get undressed in the bathroom, stick my foot in the toilet and pee down my leg to prevent splashing sounds. I ease into bed and my wife STILL wakes up, and yells at me for staying out so late!" His buddy looks at him and says "Well, you're obviously taking the wrong approach. I screech into the driveway, slam the door, Storm up the steps, pee hard into the toilet water, then use the full flush, throw my shoes in the closet, undress in the bedroom, then jump into bed, slap her on the bum and say, WHO'S HORNY????!!!" And ....she acts like she's sound asleep! It Works Every Time!

Here's me during my depression !

I haven't been in good spirits when it comes to my Oilers lately. What a contrast since last May when it was party night every 2nd day. I'm hoping that their recent skid is over, and that the new year is "Go time !" Even though I dished out the turd pie to my "Canuck fan friends" last April when Van. failed to make the play-offs... I have to admit I can't take it from them anymore !

Answered Prayers !

My buddy Keith and I were just talking two days ago about what would become of Peter Nedved. At that time it was rumored that the Ottawa Senator's would pick him up off waivers from the Philadelphia Flyer's. In jest, I said "wouldn't be great if Edmonton got him, and made a Czech line with him, Sykora and Hemsky?" Keith said Nedved's best days were gone, and that he was done. The Oiler's brass doesn't think so and neither do I ! With the current downward spiral the Oil need help, and I hope this is just the beginning. Horcoff, Smyth, and Pisani make up the second line, while Stoll, Torres, and Lupul a scoring third line. Reasoner, Petersen and (insert rookie here) make up the checking line. I dearly hope Lowe is hunting for a puck moving defence man, that would make a huge improvement in our playoff hunt. The Oil sent Patrick Thoresen to the farm to make room for Nedved
