Both clubs scored a p.p. goal but the Oiler's got a short handed tally and the win. The 3 stars were #3 Andy McDonald (Ducks) #2 Dwayne Roloson and #1 Mike Peca who had a goal and an assist !

Game Day !

PLAYOFF SERIES:
Western Conference finals; Game 1.
The Edmonton Oilers and Anaheim Mighty Ducks have been two of the surprise teams of the Stanley Cup playoffs, reaching the Western Conference finals behind goaltenders who didn't figure prominently in either team's plans at the start of the season.

Yet, Edmonton's Dwayne Roloson and Anaheim's Ilya Bryzgalov are key reasons why their respective teams are one series win away from the Stanley Cup finals when they face off in Game 1 at Arrowhead Pond.
Joffrey Lupul scored all four goals in Anaheim's 4-3 win in Game 3 against the Avalanche, and Teemu Selanne put the Ducks up for good with a second-period goal in a 4-1 Game 4 victory.
Selanne leads the Ducks with 10 points in 11 postseason games, and has 39 goals and 72 points in 58 games against the Oilers.
Anaheim has dominated opponents during the win streak, outscoring Calgary and Colorado 21-5 while posting three shutouts, but the eight-day layoff following the sweep of the Avalanche may be a concern.
"I hope not," Selanne said. "It might take one or two periods, but after that it's going to be a big advantage to have healthy bodies and a lot of energy."
Edmonton gets only one day off before facing the Ducks.
After losing the first two games of their semifinal series with San Jose, the Oilers won four straight and eliminated the Sharks with a 2-0 victory Wednesday night. Roloson stopped 24 shots for his first playoff shutout in 27 postseason games.
Eighth-seeded Edmonton continued a surge that began with a first-round upset of top-seeded Detroit in six games. Roloson faced an average of 39.7 shots a game in that series and repeatedly denied Detroit's shooters.
Roloson then outperformed red-hot Sharks goalie Vesa Toskala to help send the Oilers to the conference finals for the first time in 14 years.
The season didn't start well for Roloson, whose playing time diminished in Minnesota. The 36-year-old veteran came over in a March 8 trade for a first-round draft pick, and now heads to the conference finals for the first time since 2003, when he also faced the Ducks.
"We want to go down to Anaheim and give ourselves another chance," Edmonton forward Ryan Smyth said. "It starts from your defense up, and we seem to play solid defensive hockey."
The Oilers have advanced with a potent and balanced attack, as four players have recorded at least 10 points in 12 playoff games.
Edmonton swept the season series from Anaheim this season, and has won 16 of the last 20 meetings between the teams since the start of the 2000-01 campaign.
Game 2 is Sunday night.

'nough said !

The San Jose Sharks are road kill... they lost 2-0 to the Oiler's tonight. Dwayne Roloson got his first playoff shut-out, while Peca and Horcoff scored the goals. If you're not a believer... why not? The Oiler's play the Anaheim Ducks next, and match up quite nicely against them. The Oiler's reached the quarter finals for the first time since 1992, anything can happen when your team is on a roll ! "Go Oiler's Go !"

The Oilers went on to pummle the Sharks the other night by the previous identical score 6-3. It seems as if they're destined to make the next round, because the Sharks are throwing everything at them and still getting the short end of the stick. Game 6 goes tommorow at 5:00 p.m. p.s.t. and the Oilers have the opportunity to close the series infront of an electric Edmonton crowd. Stupid penalties for San Jose helped them come un-glued and stuffed a dagger in their playoff dream, say a prayer... round 3 is in the Oiler's grasp.

It takes all sorts of players to win a Stanley Cup, scorers, checkers and work horses. These 3 are just as valuable to the Oilers as any player in the dressing room. As the play-offs roll on we'll need these guys doing their thing at their very best.

Tonite is game 4, and a chance to even the series 2 games a piece. The Oilers willl look to carry the momentum from game 3 into tonites contest in which they out-shot, out-hit, out-faceoffed, and out-scored the San Jose Sharks. Say your prayer for the Oil, it works ! If each player gives his all the way Ryan Smyth did, this series is all tied up !

WHAT A GAME !!

AP - May 11, 3:15 am
EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) -- Three games in four nights -- including one decided in triple overtime -- 171 hard on-ice collisions, broken teeth, a mashed knee and a face puffed up like a bloody balloon.
The Edmonton Oilers and San Jose Sharks are going full tilt in what is quickly becoming a playoff series that'll be talked about for years.
With Game 4 set for Edmonton on Friday night, the question now remains which team will have the strength and endurance to survive the rough best-of-seven series.
"It works into our favor because we feel we're better equipped for a long battle," Edmonton forward Ethan Moreau said after the Oilers' optional practice Thursday. "But it's taxing. It takes its toll on your body."
The Oilers needed 42 minutes, 24 seconds of overtime Wednesday to defeat the Sharks 3-2 and cut their series deficit to 2-1. The Sharks, with seven rookies in their lineup, won the first two games at home by a score of 2-1
Oilers forward Georges Laraque, who was kicked out Wednesday halfway through the game for slamming Jonathan Cheechoo's head against the boards, said despite the tally in games no one has the advantage.
"The Sharks are deep and they're really a good team," he said. "They're fast. They're as fast as us, with size.
"Every game is a draining battle."
Scheduling conflicts at the arena in San Jose forced the series to begin on back-to-back nights Sunday and Monday before Wednesday's Game 3, which took more than four hours to complete.
"When you throw in six periods, well five and then some ... it's really four games in four nights in terms of energy," Sharks coach Ron Wilson said. "When you factor in playoff intensity and the speed and the collisions that have been going on, that's almost like playing five games in four nights, so fatigue does become a factor."
The injuries are mounting.
In the second period Wednesday, Oilers forward Ryan Smyth was hit in the face by Chris Pronger's rising clearing pass and had three teeth knocked out. Smyth left a trail of blood as he skated back to the bench but returned soon after and helped set up Shawn Horcoff's overtime winner.
The Sharks were without rookie sensation winger Milan Michalek. The 21-year-old Czech assisted on three of the four San Jose goals in the first two games and paid the price when Oilers forward Raffi Torres lined him up in the neutral zone in Game 2 and leveled a semi-legal hit to his head.
Michalek came back to play in that game but the side of his face puffed up, and one eye was closed. He was scratched from Game 3, but Wilson said Thursday he's hopeful to have him in the lineup on Friday.
The Oilers have lost speedy forward Radek Dvorak for the rest of the series. He sprained a knee ligament when Patrick Rissmiller rammed him into the boards in the series opener.
On Wednesday, Sharks goalie Vesa Toskala was all that stood between the Oilers and a blowout. Edmonton fired 58 shots and allowed only 34 to be recorded against goalie Dwayne Roloson.

It was a cool and almost rainy day, not the best fishing weather, but we've got the bug. Morphy Lake was calm but cold, and the fish were biting, but just not our rigs. After a couple unsuccessful hours we packed 'er in and headed home. I hope Saturday is our lucky day, I still want that 12 pound laker that stole my $8.50 flat fish hook !

It's go time !

The Oilers' find themselves down 2-0 in the best of 7 against the San Jose Sharks playing at home in Edmonton tonite. Goals have been sparse in round 2, so someone is gonna have to step up to the challenge the way they did against Detroit, or I'll be going fishing alot more and sooner than I want.
The game starts at 7:00 p.m. mst so be there with your cheer on, and say a prayer for the Oilers cause it's go time.
